2009 Melbourne Cup Winner
Mark Kavanagh's spring of despair turned full circle when Shocking gave the trainer his first Melbourne Cup, defying a determined challenge from the Europeans and leaving Bart Cummings out in the cold. After settling in the second half of the field, Brown drove Shocking ($10) to the lead inside the final 200 metres of the gruelling 3200 metre journey but Godolphin's Crime Scene ($41) made a fight of it. Eventually, Shocking got the upper hand and went on to win by three-quarters of a length with Mourilyan ($21) bursting out of the pack to run third, another 1-1/2 lengths away.
2008 Melbourne Cup Winner
With the international threat the talk of the town in the buildup to the 2008 Melbourne Cup, the Bart Cummings trained Viewed ($41) came from nowhere to score by a nose, from the courageous English Stayer Bauer ($21), in a memorable victory. The raiders, led by the Aden O’Brien stable, were left wanting after setting the early pace, while Cummings proved yet again that he is one of the greatest trainers in the land. No doubt the European contingent will return next year for another crack at Australian horse racing’s premier prize – the 2009 Melbourne Cup.
2007 Melbourne Cup Winner
Spring's highlight event lived up to all expectations. One time favourite, Efficient ($23.29), trained by Graeme Rogerson and ridden by Michael Rodd, made a surging late run from the outside to defeat Purple Moon ($1.82) and Mahler ($4.09). The striking grey stayer's had struggled with mediocre form until the race, but he peaked at the right time to claim the Melbourne Cup.
2006 Melbourne Cup Winner
The winner of the Melbourne Cup (2006) was Delta Blues, ridden by Yasunari Iwata. Delta Blues is owned, trained and ridden by a Japanese team, confirming that the Melbourne Cup is truly an international race on the global racing calendar. Other internationally trained horses to have won the race in recent years include Vintage Crop and Media Puzzle, both of whom were trained by the Irish master Dermot Weld.

Melbourne Cup Day is the highlight of the Spring Carnival and Australia's most famous Tuesday. No matter where you are‚ at work, a bar, listening on the radio or watching on TV, the entire nation stops to witness the running of the Melbourne Cup. It truly is the race that stops a nation.
